Genesis Gamilong first held a camera in the field during the hero's burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. She discovered photography during a difficult but interesting time in history. Since then, she has not stopped going to the field to listen to people and to take photos. Her work is highly influenced by photojournalism and its capacity to tell stories. She believes that art, specifically photography, can encourage people to move and to take action.
She will continue to work to better convey the stories of communities and individuals that are displaced due to social, political, and economic reasons. She hopes to continue to take photos in the future and longs for a day when there will finally be no stories of injustice that need to be told. Her works have been published in Heights Ateneo and Matanglawin Ateneo. She is an awardee of the 26th Loyola Schools Awards for the Arts for Photography. |
